Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious Basterds was my choice of movie for this week. And i have to say it was a great choice. Another great creation of Quentin Tarantino. I actually had no idea what this movie was about until i read a review on it explaining it. Even when it was nominated i had no idea what went on in it. What really made me decide to watch it is my interest in world war two. although im sure none of it actually happened just the era it took place in made it a lot more interesting. Not to mention the movie was just really good on its own.

The plot was two different stories about an escaped jew whose family was destroyed after hiding but she was able to get away and she eventually inherited a movie theater and began her life there. The main plot was about the group of people that went by "the basterds" that were nazi murderers. They would get as many nazis as they can and killed them on the spot. except for the select few that they would free to tell the other nazis of them-without revealing their plans otherwise they would be struck by death. Which just made this movie much more interesting. But what made this movie what it was, was when the escaped jew, Shosanna (Melanie Laurent), teamed up with Lt. Aldo Raine's (Brad pitt) legion of Basterds to kill the jews.

This all came about when Shosanna had a nazi take a liking to her after actually meeting her at her theater. He found that she didnt like him as much because of the fact he was a nazi so he just wanted her to like him. He helped her have an opening of a famous movie there for the nazis to give her a lot of business and she planned to burn it down when they were all in there because she found that one of the nazis attending was the one that killed her family. The basterds also had a plan to destroy nazis at this movie premier with the help of theyre double agent actress.

In my opinion, the acting in this movie was phenominal. As usual Brad pitt did an outstanding job and i also think Melanie Laurent did a job worthy of recognition. Christoph Walts (grammy nominee) also did well. All of them sticking to character with very believable accents. The era this took place in worked, although the movie wouldnt make any sense if it didnt take place of world war two, but it might just be because thats my favorite historical event to learn about because of the interest and passion. It really makes you feel for the jews that lost their lives. And this movie just hit that emotional spot but it was still really good.

The directing, the way it was shot, with the two storylines eventually meeting made it all the more interesting. I really liked the action and humor thrown into it (mostly from brad pitt and the basterds) but it really added onto it. The revenge and torture to those that kill others is something you dont really see everday. in the words of Shosanna "My name is Shosanna Dreyfus and THIS is the face... of Jewish vengeance!" but id have to say my favorite quote, said by Lt. Aldo Raine, was "Were interested in one thing and one thing only, and thats killin nazis" So in my opinion, as i said a few times before, this movie was amazing. So i definatly suggest it to all!
