THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS review

Its week two and the movie I decided to watch was The Silence of the Lambs. A film by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, this oscar winning movie took best picture in 1991. I actually thought this was a pretty decent movie. I mean the plot line was really good. And the ending was just the icing on top of the cake. Unfortunatly i felt like the first parts of the movie kind of dragged. There wasn't much keeping my attention in, except for of course the appearance of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. This thriller will keep you at the edge of your seat!

It starts off with a training FBI student trying tom make her way to the top. Her boss has a special task for her. Theres a sick murderer on the loose whose victims are only young women, but not only is he killing these girls, hes also skinning them. And everyones just trying to figure out why. But thats not the task Agent Clarice Starling got, her boss wanted her to go to a convict to possibly get some answers out of him. They think that Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the man thats already in jail for cannibalism, knows a thing or two about this newly born criminal Buffalo Bill. So Clarice is off to talk to him. Throughout the movie, after making some false promises that had to be made under the law, she gets some of the information she needs as to where this buffalo bill man is. Hes got another young woman and its only a matter of time before he kills her along with the others.

Hannibal Lecter actually found a way of becoming a friend to Clarice, despite his evil psycotic ways. As an ex psyciatrist he understands the human mind very easily and can read just about anyone. After being moved he cleverly finds a way to break out of his highly protected prison. By murdering two cops he gets out with a method no one thought would ever happen, he cut off one of the cops faces as a mask and got his way out. I know, this is a very sick way to escape, but he did it proudly. But while all this was going on Clarice ended up accidently finding Buffalo Bill and it turns out he was just some transvestite psycopath, With a strange desire to be a woman. Now I'm not going to say anymore because I dont want to completely ruin the ending. I'm sure you already have a good enough idea of how suspenseful this is.

"Hello Clarice" I'm sure to most people this quote sounds familiar. I have even heard it, long before I saw this film. It's Dr. hannibals signature greeting to agent starling. He's very pleasant most of the time to Clarice. I'm sure hes pleasant to everyone, when hes not attempting to eat them and i think Anthony Hopkins was a perfect pick for this character. He knows exactly how to add that 'creepy touch'. After my brother saw this movie he only had one thing to say "Anthony Hopkins is one scary guy." and that he is, at least in this film. And for Jodie Foster, this was her big break. Her introduction into the world, what brought her where she is today. And in my opinion, she did a pretty good job of it. I also think all the supporting actors and actresses were great. I actually just think all the acting in general was just really good.

The Silence of the Lambs had a very creepy mood to it. Therefore the setting always seemed, dark and depressing. Most of it did take place in a prison facility. There was something i always wondered about this movie though, why it was named silence of the lambs. It wasnt about sheep at all, it was about murderers and cannibalism and the FBI. Well after finally watching it i learned that it was named that because of Agent Starlings childhood. she was orphaned at a young age, when her father-the closest person to her- died and she was forced to move with her cousins on a farm. She saw animals here be killed, sheep for example..and she wanted to save them. She tried, and failed. Which is why she felt she needed to solve this murder case, she watned to save this young girl because it reminded her of the lamb she couldnt save. All of this was figured out by Hannibal Lecter, which goes to show how brilliant he was. The costume design in this film was simple, it was just what people would wear in the time period, which wasnt from too long ago. 1991 the film came out, so i would expect the time zone to be a little bit before then in the movie. So everyone, besides the convicts who were wearing their uniforms were in more modern clothing.

Well that about raps it up for the critique of The Silence of the Lambs. It had a good plot and brilliant actors, although its a little slow at the beginning, it will eventually suck you in. It wasnt amazing, but it wasn't bad, it wasnt bad at all. Id actually say it was rather good. Soooo if you wanan watch something with a sort of creepy edge, with some mystery thrown in it, this is the perfect movie for you!

I like this movie alot. I have to disagree with you on this one. I think there was alot of points in the movie that made me stay watching. The ending was amazing and very chilling. Hannibal is done well by Anthony Hopkins. He is such an amazing actor.

I"m far to biased on this movie. It's definitely one of my very favorites. The slow pace of the movie build the tension, it lets the audience get comfortable and then it confronts them with chilling scene after chilling scene before allowing them back into a sense of "security". This slow build and then fall cycle really grabs you and keeps you interested if this is the kind of movie you like. The rest of the series actually movies a lot faster one that I would almost call an action movie is Hannibal Rising it's all about Lector's childhood and teen year and how he became how he is.
